outfit inspiration board

If you've been keeping up with my blog, you know I LOVE to take something I don't like any more and turn it into something fabulous and useful. Thats just what I did with these 2 wall art canvas things I got a long time ago from target. I think I've said this before on here but I'll say it again... I am flat out getting tired of chocolate brown… when we first got married I bought everything dark brown and now I can't stand to look at the color in our house anymore ha. So these canvases caught my eye and they had to be taken down.

So instead of chunking them out, I covered them with some striped fabric I bought at IKEA awhile back. I just used a hot glue gun to secure the fabric to the back of the canvases' frame.

That's it. There's no other steps. Simple as that.

I had these done for a few weeks before I had the idea of what to do with them.

 One day (like most days) I was staring into my closet full of clothes thinking "Gah I have NOTHING to wear!" So being the pinterest fanatic that I am, I headed on over to my"Inspiration for my Closet" board and got some great ideas of what to throw together from the things I already own. Thats when it hit me to print out small pictures of some of my favorite outfit ideas and stick them to my then homeless striped canvases. 

You could also hang it in the kitchen and put up pictures of recipes you want to try soon, or in your craft area with crafts to do… the uses are endless. 

So before you take that not-so-cute-anymore wall art to the goodwill, think about upcyling it to a great new idea board.!

Outdoor living space

We just love eating on the deck in the summer time.

The only bad thing with outdoor decorations and furniture is that it wears out so badly from the sun and rain. We've only had this patio set for 2 years but this spring it was already time to replace the cushions and outdoor rug. But the new replacements really made it back into a pretty great space that we use a ton!

These are a few little details that make outdoor dinning fun…A  Carafe for easy-to-bring-outside drinks, lanterns with candles, and plastic placemats. 

A few pretty potted plants finish off the cozy look and add a little color to our deck. 

I am excited about fall coming up but I am also savoring these last few weeks of warm summer nights spent on our deck. 

Bedroom Update

Seems like all the rooms in our home are getting an update here lately. So not to be left out… here's the bedroom's facelift!

This is the before pictures. I've had this bed frame forever. Skot hated it because his feet hit the footboard. So I knew when I started tossing around ideas for the bedroom, the bed had to go.

 

We decided to take the top of our old dinning room table and turn it into a headboard. The tabletop has sentimental value too. When we got home from our honeymoon, Skot had surprised me with it as a wedding gift. I had been eyeing a barn wood style table at Pier 1 for a few months before we got married, but being broke newly weds, buying a house and all we decided to wait on the $800 table haha. Skot went and took pictures of the table and recreated it with real barn wood and legs he found at an antique store. It looked almost identical to the Pier 1 table, and the thought, effort, energy, and love behind the wedding gift from my new husband was so so sweet! Much better than the store one! 

So needless to say the table couldn't go! Now it just has a fresh coat of paint and has a fabulous new purpose in our home. (tutorial on how to paint things to give it the"distressed" look, coming soon!) 

I bought the elephant and chevron fabric off amazon and just covered our old pillows. I've been seeing pillows like these go for around $50 each on websites I follow!! All the fabric cost about $25 and i still have some left over. I see some cute travel bags being made in the near future :-)

I found this grey and white striped duvet at target for a steal of around $30. It came with pillow covers too! Much cheaper than the West Elm one I was thinking about buying.

I think the string lights (also from target) just set the room off! the right lighting gives any space the perfect finishing touch. I found these in the outdoor/patio section.

I gave our existing shelves a fresh coat of paint. I have been buying the sample size of paint from Lowe's for projects like these here lately. That way I can pick out the exact color I want and it is good quality paint. It runs about $3.00 per sample, and its more than enough to complete projects like this.

I recruited my milk glass vases that I have collected from thrift and antique stores over the years. I love how simple and clean milk glass is. 

Found this great mirror from TJ Maxx. I love it! 

Gave the lamp a few coats of white spray paint. I didn't prime it before (i get impatient with things like this) which made it kind of bubble up but I ended up kind of liking the texture. Then I just used the left over pillow fabric and covered the shade. I like elephants a lot :-) Roll Tide!

We love the new bedroom update. Now I wish I could just lay in bed forever and enjoy it!

Guest Bathroom Update

Awhile back I updated my bathroom with a fresh new look. I have enjoyed the new colors and style so much I decided to give our guest bathroom a facelift too. 

Above is my idea board for the bathroom. I wanted to get rid of the brown and introduce creams and light grays. I also wanted to find stylish and functional pieces used for storage. 

Here is the before pictures… I didn't even bother cleaning before I took them. In all the magazines and TV shows you see before and after pictures they never clean up for the before pics… and I just didn't feel like straightening up when I took these hehe. 

See all the dark browns and that very small brown wicker basket used to store wash cloths… not good.

So total we're looking at roughly $75! That's not bad for a compete room makeover. I used elsewhere/crafted/upcycled some of the items I took out of the "before" bathroom and some stuff we added to the "garage sale" pile. 

I love stores like Ikea that make changing your mind on room styles affordable and easy to fix. Then there's also great stores like West Elm, Pottery Barn, and Anthropology that make splurging on statement items worth it with all their fabulous products! 

Now who's gonna be our first guest to try out the new bathroom? Anyone need a vacation to East Tennessee? 

Inspiration for Bedroom facelift

Do you ever just get the itchin' for a change in scenery in your home…. Well I do quite often and not wanting to drop hundreds of dollars every time I get a hunch for a change, I have figured out some very clever DIY, budget friendly ways to recreate a room! More of what I've got going on in our bedroom later but I just wanted to show off my inspiration pictures for now….
